PreS-Gr 2-Ross continues his tradition of illuminating issues that trouble young children. Here he tackles the trauma experienced by youngsters when they are uprooted from a beloved home. The Little Princess cannot understand the reason for leaving the castle-her family needs more space-or appreciate the advantages of moving-a lovely new room, an inviting yard, and a kitchen equipped to make just about anything. She demands to "go home," and eventually her mother agrees to take her for a "peep" at her old castle. The Little Princess notices that many things have changed, from the bright new colors everywhere to the strict new rules that govern all activities in the castle and the garden. She quickly realizes that a home is much more than a building: it must be filled with the people who love you. As usual, Ross's boldly colored cartoons are a delight, clearly illuminating the emotions of the princess and her extended family. For fans of the series, it is fun to see the Little Princess growing up, albeit slowly, as well as her brother now sitting on the potty. A great new chapter in this series.-Sally James, South Hillsborough Elementary School, Hillsborough, CA
