First up is Nathan, a handsome mechanic and her employee’s cousin—but they hit a bump when Nathan reveals he’s a recovering alcoholic and Indigo fears her lifestyle will hinder his recovery. Another romantic option is Diego, a lawyer at the firm where her parents work. After a disastrous first meeting when Diego makes a scene at Indigo’s store, feelings shift during their next encounter—until Indigo’s mother warns her away from him. And then there’s Tate, Indigo’s best friend and former boyfriend. They dated in high school until a life-changing event stuck them in the friend zone. If they hope to move from friends to lovers now, they must first have an honest reckoning with the past. The true love story is slow to start, but Indigo’s dates keep things moving and her friends and family add charm. Samuel shows real promise.

Indigo Clark, a confident and successful entrepreneur, enjoys so much about her life, but the approach of her 30th birthday only intensifies her feelings that she isn't where she should be by now. Her romantic past is littered with disasters big and small, so she is extremely wary when two new potential romantic partners enter her life in quick succession. Indigo can easily see herself with fellow entrepreneur Nathan, with whom she shares so many interests, or with lawyer Diego, whose company she enjoys in spite of her initial reservations about him. She's open to the possibilities that are revealed as she stops thinking about her love life in terms of arbitrary deadlines. Her immediate family and close friends have conflicting opinions and loyalties, which sometimes prevent them from offering objective help, but their love for Indigo is always clear, even when they are at odds. VERDICT Samuel deftly weaves humor, pathos, and sexiness into the story of how Indigo's journey to find a romantic partner leads to her discovering her own truest self along the way. This engrossing novel is likely to be popular and is recommended for all fiction collections.--Nicole Williams
