Jennifer, a hard working woman from the 20th century, travels to a museum in Scotland to do some research. Holding an ancient amulet and accidentally repeating an ancient spell sends her back to the 12th century where she's rescued by a man who far exceeds any dreams she's ever had.
Cainnech's mother, Arianna, bade the faeries to give her a son. He was the result of that bidding, though she's never revealed the truth to him. At last he meets his sire, and has to come to terms with who, and what, he is. He's finally discovered a unique and independent woman that he doesn't want to live without, but fears the consequences of their continuing relationship.
Once Jennifer discovers a way to return to her time, she and Cainnech struggle to determine what is most important in their lives, what they are willing to risk for one another and love.
